Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Mechanical, Electrical, and Controls Conveyor  Commissioning Engineers to support commissioning and testing of Greenfield Amazon Cross Dock (IXD) facilities across the United States.

This role involves working as part of a 5-person commissioning team responsible for validating the performance, functionality, and reliability of newly installed material handling and conveyor systems. The team ensures all systems operate efficiently, safely, and in accordance with design specifications prior to facility launch. 4-5 mos per location.

This is a hands-on, field-driven role requiring strong troubleshooting ability, system-level thinking, and the ability to work collaboratively in fast-paced, high-visibility environments.


Project Scope

Commissioning and validation of newly constructed Amazon distribution facilities, including:

  • Conveyor systems (belts and drives)
  • Sortation systems and automated material handling equipment (MHE)
  • Sensors, photo eyes, and scanning systems
  • Electrical and control systems
  • System throughput and performance optimization

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform commissioning and startup activities for conveyor and material handling systems
  • Conduct full system walk-downs, following package flow from inbound to outbound to validate performance
  • Verify proper operation of:
    • Belts, motors, and drives
    • Sortation equipment
    • Sensors, photo eyes, and control devices
  • Monitor and analyze system throughput, identifying:
    • Bottlenecks
    • Flow restrictions
    • Timing or sequencing issues
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues
  • Collaborate with a multi-discipline commissioning team (Mechanical, Electrical, Controls) to resolve system deficiencies
  • Adjust system performance to ensure optimal package flow (speed, spacing, accuracy)
  • Support testing of system functionality under live or simulated operational conditions
  • Document findings, issues, and corrective actions
  • Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, engineers, and site leadership

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following:
    • Conveyor systems
    • Material handling equipment (MHE)
    • Industrial automation
    • Electrical or mechanical systems
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience in:
    • Mechanical systems
    • Electrical systems
    • Controls or automation environments
  • Ability to read and interpret:
    • Layout drawings
    • Electrical schematics
    • System flow diagrams
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based commissioning environment
  • Willingness to travel nationwide for project assignments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience commissioning or supporting material handling / conveyor systems
  • Prior experience in Amazon facilities or similar high-volume distribution centers
  • Exposure to PLC systems, sensors, and automation controls
  • Engineering degree in:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Controls / Automation Engineering

(Engineering degrees are a strong plus but not required.)


Work Environment

  • Amazon warehouse and distribution facilities
  • Active construction and startup environments
  • Fast-paced, schedule-driven projects
  • Extensive walking and system walkthroughs required

Screening Requirements

  • Must pass a 10-panel drug test
  • Must pass a background check

Compensation & Travel

  • $42/hour
  • Per diem ranging from $178–$307/day (based on location)
  • Travel required (projects located throughout the U.S.)
  • 4-5 mos per location
