Mechanical Engineering and R&D Manager $100-$150K/YR
Summit Skilled Solutions is hiring a Mechanical Engineering and R&D Manager for a shop position in Lynchburg, VA. This is a Direct Hire position day 1 with the contractor.
Role Overview:
Mechanical Engineering and R&D Manager Primary Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and manage a team of Mechanical Engineers. Oversee recruiting, onboarding, and continuous training.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Coordinate with design, production, and other engineering teams to support product industrialization.
- Project Oversight: Ensure mechanical designs meet engineering standards, customer requirements, and deadlines.
- Technical Execution:
- Design control panels using AutoCAD.
- Create schematics for components like motors, sensors, and switches.
- Select and integrate PLCs, HMIs, and motion control systems.
- Generate BOMs and support commissioning efforts (onsite and remote).
- Liaise with vendors and resolve customer technical issues.
Mechanical Engineering and R&D Manager Technical Requirements:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (including Electrical) and Inventor.
- Experience with Rockwell and Siemens HMI/PLC systems.
- Deep knowledge of UL and OSHA standards.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Mechanical Engineering and R&D Manager Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- 10+ years engineering experience, including R&D.
- 5+ years managing engineering teams.
Mechanical Engineering and R&D Manager Security Requirements:
- Must qualify for a DOE security clearance (includes background, drug, and reference checks).

- $100,000-$150,000/yr salary BOE
