Job Summary
Summit Skilled Solutions is seeking an experienced HVAC Technician to perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, service, and repairs on commercial HVAC systems. This position will travel to various commercial customer locations using a company-provided vehicle and tools.
The ideal candidate has strong commercial HVAC experience and is comfortable working independently while providing professional customer service. This is a multi-craft position, so experience with basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building maintenance is highly valued.
An on-call rotation will be required.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, service, and repairs on commercial HVAC systems.
- Service standard package units, split systems, and related commercial HVAC equipment.
- Inspect and replace belts, pulleys, filters, and other components as needed.
- Clean and maintain condensate drain lines, coils, and related HVAC components.
- Test compressors, fan motors, blower motors, burners, heat exchangers, and safety/operational controls.
- Diagnose and repair HVAC mechanical and electrical issues, including compressors, condensing units, contactors, circuit boards, motors, and other components.
- Troubleshoot airflow and ductwork issues.
- Perform general repairs and maintenance on steam and hot water boiler systems.
- Safely recover, handle, and charge refrigerants in accordance with EPA requirements.
- Perform brazing, soldering, and copper piping repairs as needed.
- Complete service inspections and equipment/asset inspections.
- Respond to service calls and emergency maintenance needs, including participation in an on-call rotation.
- Perform minor plumbing repairs, including drains, faucets, toilets, and leaks.
- Perform minor electrical maintenance within applicable state licensing requirements.
- Complete basic carpentry, drywall, painting, and general building maintenance.
- Accurately document work performed, parts used, and service recommendations through electronic work orders.
- Prepare service reports and inspection documentation.
- Communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and internal team members.
- Provide recommendations and estimates for larger repairs or projects.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all company, customer, OSHA, and safety requirements.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of HVAC and/or general maintenance experience preferred.
- Strong commercial or industrial HVAC experience required.
- HVAC technical certification or state-approved HVAC license preferred/required as applicable.
- EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification required.
- Experience servicing commercial package units and split systems.
- Working knowledge of HVAC electrical systems, controls, motors, compressors, and refrigeration systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical HVAC problems.
- Basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general maintenance skills.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- High school diploma, technical training, or equivalent professional experience preferred.
- Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, maintenance instructions, and work orders.
- Comfortable using tablets, smartphones, and electronic work-order systems.
- Strong communication, customer service, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency service needs.
