Plant Facilities Engineer
1st Shift | Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Compensation: $105,000 – $120,000 + Benefits

Position Overview
Summit Skilled Solutions (S3) is partnering with a leading facilities and engineering services organization to identify a Facilities Engineer supporting a large-scale advanced manufacturing facility in Wilton, CT. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of complex plant utility systems within a highly technical manufacturing environment.
This is not a traditional manufacturing engineering role focused on production processes. Instead, the position is heavily centered around plant utilities, equipment reliability, maintenance engineering, and system optimization. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting large industrial or manufacturing facilities with complex infrastructure systems such as boilers, chillers, cooling towers, compressors, pumps, HVAC systems, and utility distribution equipment.
The environment is highly reliability-focused and will require someone comfortable leading root cause investigations, improving equipment uptime, supporting maintenance strategies, and partnering closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Utility Systems & Reliability Engineering

  • Support the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of plant utility systems including:
    • Boilers
    • Chillers
    • Cooling towers
    • Air compressors
    • Pumps
    • HVAC systems
    • Water treatment and distribution systems
  • Provide engineering support to maintenance and operations teams on equipment failures and performance issues
  • Develop and improve preventive maintenance strategies, SOPs, and asset care programs
  • Monitor equipment reliability, system efficiency, and overall plant performance
  • Assist with equipment installations, commissioning, upgrades, and reliability improvements
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing downtime and improving system reliability

Root Cause Analysis & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations related to equipment failures, outages, and recurring reliability issues
  • Utilize structured problem-solving methodologies such as:
    • 5 Whys
    • Fishbone Analysis
    • FMEA
    • Fault Tree Analysis
  • Develop corrective actions and long-term engineering solutions
  • Track reliability metrics including MTBF, MTTR, and failure trends
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement and validate corrective actions

Spare Parts & Inventory Management

  • Support the management of critical spare parts inventory for utility and facility equipment
  • Assist with BOM development and CMMS optimization
  • Coordinate with purchasing and vendors on sourcing critical components and long-lead items
  • Help maintain organized and accurate storeroom and inventory processes
  • Balance equipment uptime needs with inventory cost management

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure utility systems and maintenance activities comply with OSHA, EPA, and site safety standards
  • Support LOTO procedures, risk assessments, and engineering safety initiatives
  • Promote a culture of safety, reliability, and operational excellence

Qualifications
Preferred Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field preferred
  • 3–7+ years of experience within:
    • Plant utilities
    • Maintenance engineering
    • Reliability engineering
    • Industrial manufacturing environments
  • Experience supporting large-scale or technically complex facilities strongly preferred

Technical Experience

  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical utility systems
  • Experience within manufacturing, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, industrial, or highly automated facilities preferred
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems such as:
    • SAP
    • Maximo
    • eMaint
    • Fiix
  • Ability to read and interpret:
    • P&IDs
    • Mechanical drawings
    • Electrical schematics
    • Technical documentation
  • Strong data analysis and reporting skills using Excel and related software tools
