Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Water Damage Specialist – Intermediate Level to lead residential and small commercial water-loss projects from initial assessment through documentation and completion.

This is a Level 3 position within the Water Damage career progression. The specialist will lead field teams, perform and supervise water mitigation activities, document losses, operate and maintain extraction and drying equipment, and determine the extent and distribution of moisture within affected structures.

The Intermediate Water Damage Specialist also supports the development of entry-level technicians and works alongside advanced technicians on larger or more complex projects. During catastrophe (CAT) assignments, this role may manage multiple water losses and coordinate temporary labor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and self-perform water mitigation activities on residential and small commercial losses
  • Supervise crews of up to 10 employees during water mitigation projects
  • Assess affected structures and contents to determine the extent of water damage
  • Identify affected versus unaffected materials and establish appropriate drying goals
  • Perform moisture inspections and create accurate moisture maps
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot water extraction, drying, and moisture detection equipment
  • Deploy air movers, LGR dehumidifiers, pumps, and other drying equipment based on project requirements
  • Perform and supervise debris removal, containment and drying chambers, wall-cavity drying, baseboard removal, carpet cushion removal, and related mitigation activities
  • Evaluate structural materials and contents for direct and indirect water damage
  • Assess restoration versus replacement requirements
  • Complete moisture content logs, psychrometric logs, sketches, floor plans, photographs, and other required project documentation
  • Review daily project requirements, document progress, and communicate challenges or changes to management
  • Maintain accurate records of labor hours, equipment usage, and consumable materials
  • Ensure team members use the appropriate PPE and follow established safety procedures
  • Receive and execute direction from supervisors
  • Provide support and guidance to Basic Level Water Damage Technicians
  • Assist Advanced Technicians on complex or large-scale losses
  • Coordinate temporary workers during CAT assignments when required
  • Maintain professional communication and customer service throughout the project
  • Participate in required company operations and safety training
  • Travel and work nights or weekends when project requirements dictate
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 12 months of Water Damage Basic Level experience or equivalent industry experience
  • Direct participation in at least 25 water damage projects
  • Current IICRC WRT (Water Restoration Technician) designation
  • Working knowledge of the IICRC S500 Water Damage Standard
  • Working knowledge of the IICRC S520 Mold Remediation Standard
  • Demonstrated experience supervising small crews of up to 10 people
  • Experience working on residential, commercial, and/or industrial water losses
  • Ability to properly use moisture meters, thermal hygrometers, infrared cameras, and equivalent moisture detection equipment
  • Experience with truck-mount extraction systems, including maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Ability to create sketches and read floor plans
  • Ability to complete moisture content and psychrometric logs
  • Understanding of air mover calculations and LGR dehumidification requirements
  • Understanding of electrical power specifications and circuits used for drying equipment
  • Ability to accurately record field data using mobile devices
  • English language literacy and fluency

Technical Competencies

The successful candidate should be able to:

  • Determine the class and extent of water damage, including Class 4 materials
  • Select appropriate drying and restoration techniques based on material and moisture conditions
  • Establish and monitor drying goals
  • Interpret moisture readings and environmental conditions
  • Create accurate moisture maps and project documentation
  • Calculate appropriate air mover placement
  • Apply LGR dehumidification requirements
  • Operate and troubleshoot extraction and drying equipment
  • Distinguish affected from unaffected building materials and contents
  • Document project conditions through photographs, sketches, measurements, and logs

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift and carry 50+ lbs.
  • Occasionally lift 41+ lbs. with assistance
  • Work in confined and tight spaces
  • Stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, and work in various positions for extended periods
  • Use mobile devices to collect and document project data and time
  • Work in active restoration environments and respond to changing job-site conditions

Compensation

  • $25–$30/hour, based on experience, certifications, technical capabilities, and demonstrated water mitigation experience.
